Last week we looked at current news in the United States – this week we will look at two articles from Latin-America, one from El Salvador about gender equality (or lack thereof), and one from Bolivia about climate.
You do not have to read both of these, but choose one and read closely. After reading you will discuss the article with other classmates who have read the same one, before sharing information with the group who read the other article.
During our classes, we will try to focus on something that is going on right now. This week, we have chosen to look at the floods in Texas and how this might be related to global warming and the events in Charlottesville, Virgina, and how what happened there (white supremacists demonstrating) has been called fake news. Choose one of these issues and write a blog entry where you comment on the article you read: Charlotteville – fake news or Texas floods- climate change. How did it make you feel? What did you learn from it? What would you like to find out more about? Do you agree with the points made in the article? Why/why not?
Finish your blog entry by next class.
Since 1964, Norwegian students have worked one day each year to give money and solidarity to fellow students around the world.
This year, Operation Day’s Work is cooperating with the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature (Norges Naturvernforbund) and Nature and Youth (Natur og Ungdom) to support projects in Nigeria.
Use the information from OD’s website, Nature and Youth and the films from the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature here and here, and write your own blog post where you imagine presenting Operation Day’s Work to someone who has never heard about this organization. You should also present this year’s project, in your own words, where you include some of the things that stayed with you after having seen the films. Discuss why this particular project is important and why students at Fagerlia should participate.
Post your blog before Monday, September 4th.
Welcome to a new school year at Fagerlia!
We are excited to start this new project, where both you and we will use blogs to share information, curriculum, assignments, and answers. This is a first for us, and the learning curve might be steep. We hope you will learn a lot and that you all will have some patience with your more technically challenged teachers.
Let’s get started!
The first order of business is for you guys to create your very own blogs. Remember, this is an educational blog, which will be evaluated, so keep it tidy and professional. Use wordpress.com and choose a free account. When making your account you can choose whether to have a public, private or hidden blog, but no matter which you choose you have to share the link with your teacher.
Most of the assignments given will be answered on your blogs, all of them will be read and be Godkjent/Ikke Godkjent, and some will be evaluated with grades. You will be notified which ones will be graded.
So, get to it! Make your blog, include links to other public blogs of your classmates, as well as our teacher blog, and maybe even a map, so you can see where your visitors are from.
After having created your blog, your first blog assignment is simply this: Write a post about the UN sustainable development goals which we have talked about in class. Your post should include which goals you think are most important, and most interesting for you to work with – and why. Also, share your thoughts on how you would like to work with this goal.
